Adolescence — the teen years — mark a major milestone in people’s lives. No longer are they children, but they’re not quite adults. The changes that ensue during this time of transition can be challenging and your teen may need professional support to help cope. That’s where we come in. Their search for identity, peer acceptance and struggle for independence can lead to heightened levels of stress and anxiety. Conflicts at home and declining academic performance can result. But parents can play a supportive role. Research shows that adolescents who have good communication and are bonded with a caring adult are less likely to engage in risky behaviors, and parents who supervise and are involved with their adolescent’s activities are promoting a safe environment for them to explore new opportunities.

Providing health care to adolescents presents a twofold challenge: the treatment of immediate health problems, and the opportunity — through health education and disease prevention — to promote good health habits and lifestyle choices that span into adulthood.
